This page is a copy of Steve's standard Getting Started Right page referenced in the members' area of the Stephen B. Henry business site, but it has been edited specifically for students of the 30 Day Formula™ Digital Learning Experience programs and used here with permission. Even if you have read a similar page before elsewhere, you should take the time to read through this document completely.
The first thing we need to cover are the "Rules of the Road". You should know that all materials (web copy, other text, ebooks, audio and video recordings, images, etc.) presented on this website or as part of 30 Day Formula™ Digital Learning Experience courses, tutorials, trainings and workshops, are the copyrighted property of Our Hutch LLC, and some others (used by permission). All trademarks are the property of their respective owners.
Course material presented through 30 Day Formula™ Digital Learning Experience programs is for your own personal use exclusively and may not be re-distributed by any means, nor copied or stored on your computer except as, and if, specifically indicated in the program notes. These programs are intended for online study and use on 30 Day Formula™ websites only. Download only materials that are clearly indicated as available for download. Authorized downloadable files may be printed once for your own personal use and convenience.
If you have taken one of our courses or workshops before, on this or one of our other sties, you may recognize some of the material in this Before We Begin section. But please do not just skim over it. There are changes and additions in this version of Getting Started Right that will be important for you to know and which may impact you as you work though the material in the 30 Day Formula™ Digital Learning Experience programs. Please take the time to read this now (and for each workshop in which you participate) completely and carefully.
If this is the first one of our workshops you are taking then you will find important information in this Getting Started Right overview, and in each section of each course, tutorial, training, or workshop in which you participate. Please do take the time to read everything carefully. You will gain so much more because of it.
You may want to print out workshop pages (and this one) in order to work through the the program. You may make one printed copy of each web page on this website, and on other 30 Day Formula™ Digital Learning Experience sites, including this Getting Started Right page, for your own use as you work through any course, tutorial, training, or workshop, provided through 30 Day Formula™ Digital Learning Experience. Please respect our copyright and do not re-distribute our work. You can also work live on the site from your computer, but you will also want to to use your web browser to access other pages from time to time so you may want to keep an extra tab open. Most off-site links here should automatically open a new tab or window in your browser.
It is not so common these days but if your Internet access costs you based on your time online (this may be true if you are using a mobile device, tablet, or smart phone), or if you pay long distance fees to connect to your Internet provider, then you will want to work through the lesson off line making notes and then go back on line when you are ready to try any of the work presented. You could also save each of the lessons as web pages on your computer and then work with them off line. These tasks are usually done from the File menu at the upper left in your browser and then using 'Save Page as...' or something similar. If that is confusing to you, there is nothing wrong with just working through the pages of the workshop while you are online. Most students will likely complete our workshops that way.
Teaching any class with more than one student presents several problems for the instructor. Students come from differing backgrounds with different amounts of knowledge. If it is a computer workshop and one student does not know how to turn on the computer, one of two things happen, and both are bad:
The beauty of an Internet-based learning environment like this one is this can never happen. First of all, you MUST know how to turn the computer on or you would not be reading this, and secondly, if we do cover material that you do not understand, you can e-mail us for more personalized help. Since you work at your own speed, can get assistance at any point, and can go back and cover material again as many times as you need, you are never left behind. You can also skip quickly over material you already know (though you should always read it for a refresher!) so as not to be bogged down or bored.
The instructor's e-mail address for tutorials, courses, trainings, and workshops is: email@example.com – just click the address to send email, or copy and paste the address to your email program."
If you have signed up for a course or workshop and reading this in that regard, please send us an e-mail now to let us know that you are reading this page and that you got this far okay. Take a moment to introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your work and what you hope to get out of the workshop.
Additionally, if there are other workshops you would like to see that are not yet available here please let us know. We will do our very best to bring something of value for you. Other contact methods are also available on the Contact page (menu above) if you need them.
With an online workshop, you do not hold back the rest of the class based on what you already know or do not know, and you do not have to be afraid to ask a question in front of others. We will answer each of your questions individually dealing with each and every issue you raise. We will get back to you as promptly as possible, usually the same day. If you do ask a question that we feel others may be wondering about too, we may include the question and our answer to it in the frequently asked questions (FAQ) section, though we will not identify you to others, so you do not need to worry.
Do not ever be afraid to ask a question. Do not ever think it is a stupid question. If you do not know something, please ASK. Not knowing something does not make you foolish or stupid.
In fact, intelligence and knowledge are two completely different things. Even the smartest person does not know everything. But you can learn anything. When you do not know something it does not mean you are stupid, it just means you have not learned it yet. Do not put yourself down. Part of learning is a positive attitude — you can do it — but sometimes it will take more than one try. Just do not give up. That, certainly, would be foolish.
So, let us deal with an important issue right from the start. Each course offered by 30 Day Formula™ Digital Learning Experience is about a specific topic of interest and study. It is about creating effective content for your website or blog, and other online purposes, not about smart or stupid. If you were intelligent enough to join this site and desire to take this workshop then you are, by definition, not stupid. As stated above, intelligence and knowledge are two different things.
Read this carefully, and think about it! Einstein, some would say, was the smartest man who ever lived. Did you know he knew nothing about computers, the Internet, Kindles, digital display tablets, smart phones, other mobile devices, nor many other things we take for granted today? That's a fact.
With what you already know you are more computer literate than Einstein ever was. Just because you want to take one or more of our workshops you are already smart enough to take them! When you finish you will be more literate than Einstein in this particular subject (or those subjects) too!
The job is now ours to help you understand the things we will cover, to expand your knowledge, to take you through each of the new things you will learn here. Any failing will be ours, not yours. And just so you know right at the beginning, there are no tests and no grades or marks here. You pass with honors by sticking with the each program, each workshop, through to the end... and that really will not be so hard to do. We promise!
By taking any WizardsPlace courses, tutorials, trainings, or workshops, you will learn new things about a specific subject, especially how it applies to you as you work on your computer, the internet, building a website, writing and publishing your own ebook, or any of several other things that ultimately relate to WordPress in support of your business. There will be parts of each workshop that will be immediately useful to you and there will be parts that will cover material that won't likely be useful until perhaps sometime later. You should review all of it even though you can come back later and spend additional time on those secondary parts.
It is a good idea to have an overview of everything that is in each workshop so you can know what is available to return to when you need it. The material that will be useful immediately, or soon, can be explored in more depth. Some of it can be applied and practiced immediately through the use of your computer, your Internet connection, or your blog or website.
There are several things you can do to improve your success in, and from, the WizardsPlace Content Creation Workshop. They are not hard, but it is surprising how many people just don't do them. It's up to you but these points can more than double the value you will get from this workshop.
If you will do these three easy things you will gain so much more. You can thank me later!
As the Reverend Dodgson so aptly wrote in his wonderful fantasy, Alice In Wonderland...
Begin at the beginning," the King said, very gravely, "and go on till you come to the end. Then stop."
What simple, yet wise, words those were; spoken in the book by the King to the White Rabbit, and very good advice it was indeed. So, together, we will do just that; begin at the beginning...
